Strategic Step: First Official Visit of FTP UNUD–UTM Strengthens MoU Partnership
Johor Bahru, Malaysia – The Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Udayana University (FTP UNUD), continues to demonstrate its commitment to expanding international collaboration. This was marked by the first official visit of Dr. I.B.W. Gunam to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) on 25–29 August 2025, just three months after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two universities on 28 May 2025.
The visit was warmly welcomed by UTM leadership, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shafinaz Shahir (Dean of the Faculty of Science), along with assistant and deputy deans. During the meeting, both parties discussed internationalization strategies, joint research opportunities, and the strengthening of academic programs. In addition to the meeting, Dr. Gunam also joined a campus tour of UTM Skudai, visiting leading research facilities such as the Microscopy & Imaging Laboratory and the Mass Spectrometry Analytical Laboratory. He also had the opportunity to visit laboratories at the Institute of Bioproduct Development (IBD), which focuses on bioenergy and microbial bioprocessing.
The highlight of the program took place during IBD Wellness Day 2025, where Dr. Gunam attended alongside UTM researchers. The event was opened by the Director of IBD, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rosnani, with a keynote speech by Prof. Rosli Ilias (UTM Vice-Chancellor of Research & Innovation), who highlighted global research challenges.
According to Prof. Fahrul Zaman Huyop, the visit was far more than just ceremonial.
“This visit has created concrete pathways for collaboration in research, academic mobility, and joint development,” he stated.
Collaboration between FTP UNUD and UTM has long been established through the organization of the International Conference on Biosciences and Medical Engineering (ICBME) in various countries, as well as joint publications in reputable international journals. With Dr. Gunam’s visit, the bilateral ties between FTP UNUD and UTM are further strengthened. Both universities are committed to producing strategic initiatives that will benefit students, researchers, and the wider global academic community.
