Udayana University's Faculty of Agricultural Technology Promotes Food Innovation and Sustainable Agriculture in Jegu Village, Tabanan
Tabanan, Bali – The Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Udayana University (FTP Unud) once again demonstrated its commitment to empowering the community through a Community Service (PKM) activity held in Jegu Village, Penebel District, Tabanan Regency on Saturday, September 27, 2025. This activity embodies the spirit of cross-program collaboration to optimize local potential and improve the welfare of the village community. This year's PKM activity carries the theme “Increasing Added Value and Food Innovation Based on Local Potential.”
Through this activity, three study programs within FTP Unud played an active role. The Food Technology Study Program, represented by Mrs. Luh Dian Rna Fajarini, S.TP., M.Sc., provided training to the community on the production of white sticky rice flour and the diversification of processed food products, in order to increase the economic value of local sticky rice.
Meanwhile, the Agricultural Industry Technology Study Program, represented by Dr. Ir. Amnah Hartiati, M.P., introduced the use of white glutinous rice flour as a base ingredient for making natural masks, which not only adds value but also supports the trend of natural-based beauty products. Additionally, the Agricultural Engineering and Biosystems Study Program, represented by Ir. I Wayan Tika, M.P., disseminated the results of research on the AWD (Alternate Wetting and Drying) irrigation system in Subak Sigaran and Subak Suala, which has proven to be efficient in water management and supports more environmentally friendly rice farming.
This activity received a positive response from the local community and farmer groups, who considered the program highly relevant to their needs, both in terms of capacity building, resource efficiency, and new economic opportunities. Through this activity, the Faculty of Agricultural Technology at Udayana University hopes to continue making a tangible contribution to realizing sustainable agriculture and food based on Bali's local potential, while strengthening synergy between the academic world and the community.
