Food Technology Student Wins 1st Place in Reels Food and Nutrition Festival Competition (USAHID FANFEST 2023)

Students of the Food Technology Study Program, Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Udayana University won 1st place in the Reels Competition at the Food and Nutrition Festival (FANFEST) held by Sahid University (USAHID) in 2023 with the theme “The Importance Of The Role Of Millennials In Local Food Innovation And The Use Of Food Additives That Are Safe”. The group of students who won first place consisted of Maria Virginia Myrananda, Ni Kadek Alit Wirastuti, and Putu Anjani Dana Risti with the title Video Reels made, namely KuBu Dragon Extract as Apem Cake Food Colorant.

 

Ni Kadek Alit Wirastuti who is often called Alit explained that in apem snacks there are sometimes dangerous food additives, namely Rhodamin B. Therefore we made a natural food colorant that can replace rhodamin B, namely Dragon Fruit Peel Extract because it contains quite high anthocyanin which this substance gives red color and can also function as an antioxidant so that it is suitable as a natural food colorant and can be a solution to the problem about the use of food colorant, especially dangerous dyes such as Rhodamin B in making Apem cake.

 

In addition, she also said that in the future the team will continue to take part in competitions related to Agricultural Technology, especially in the field of Food Technology, be it poster competitions, Video Reels competitions or essays and scientific papers, she also hopes that many colleagues will also following in her footsteps to actively participate in competitions at the national and international levels in order to increase student achievement in the Food Technology Study Program, she said.
