Strengthening Internationalization, Research Team from FTP Udayana Realizes Research Collaboration with BOKU University, Austria

The Faculty of Agricultural Technology has signed a Collaboration Agreement with BOKU University. Realization of collaboration in the field of research has also been carried out. This research collaboration activity is a RESEARCH MOBILITY TO BOKU (ASEA UNINET 2022 – 2023) activity between FTP Udayana and BOKU University. The researchers involved were Ni Nyoman Sulastri, S.TP., M.Agr., Ph.D. and Dr. Sumiyati, S.TP., M.P. from FTP Udayana and Gernot Bodner, Priv.-Doz. Dr., Katharina Keiblinger, Priv.-Doz. Dipl.-Ing. Dr and Rebecca Hood – Nowotny, Priv.-Doz. MBA Ph.D who is a host researcher from BOKU University.

The realization of what has been implemented has been proven from a 10-day visit from 28 September 2023- 7 October 2023 which was made to BOKU University. Researchers from the Udayana Faculty of Agricultural Technology, namely Ni Nyoman Sulastri, S.TP., M.Agr., Ph.D. and Dr. Sumiyati, S.TP., M.P. had the opportunity to explore various soil fertility analyzes to understand the effect of straw management on paddy fields. This activity was received directly by Dr Katharina Keiblinger and Dr. Rebecca Nowotny and provided an overview of several facilities at the Soil Research Institute at BOKU that allow testing of various soil fertility parameters. In addition, he elaborates further on the estimation of dissolved organic carbon and active organic methods. Apart from visiting BOKU, the FTP Udayana team visited the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to learn about the application of isotopes for soil analysis as well as vermiculture composting farming which produces Vermigrand - bio humus fertilizer produced by earthworms.

In addition, this laboratory analysis training is a continuation of the soil health training on nitrates and ammonium which was held on 29th July 2023 in Bali, Indonesia. The first soil health training is phosphorus analysis. Analysis using the molybdate/blue ascorbic acid method was introduced by Dr. Axel Mentler. The second training was a soil respiration field test using Bromothymol blue. The soil respiration test was facilitated by Mrs. Franziska Weinrich. The final training was a soil field test where the research team from FTP Udayana conducted a field visit to the “Neusiedlersee – Seewinkel” National Park.

"It is hoped that this activity can be used as a trigger to expand the international network owned by FTP Udayana. Hopefully from this activity the research carried out by researchers from FTP Udayana can be further developed which can later be applied for the benefit of Indonesia, especially in Bali," said Dr. Sulastri, one of the research representatives from FTP Udayana
